Makin' some waves...

What are you doing today? I am sewing, sewing, sewing. That's right...just sewing.

I have had this pile...sitting, sitting, and sitting. ok. not that long...only since last weekend. Anyways.
The honey is working today, so i am sewing. yay. I am making waves...hopefully they won't upset the house boat when he comes home and finds nothing else done.

It's Saturday...do i really need to make my bed?

There's a hole in my pocket

There is a hole in my pocket. Do you have one too?

It only shows up when i enter a quilting store.

All of a suddon the hole opens and

my money slips out onto the counter.

Cranky Quilt- Log Cabin

Instructions: You will be making a total of 8 blocks.

* Cut a center for each block. This center can be a rectangle, a square, or even a cranky shape. You choose. Your centers could each be different too- that would be cranky! (I did mine a cranky shape)
* Cut strips from your fabrics. For extra crankiness cut the strips in different widths. Use 2 inches, 3 inches and half sizes too. You want different sizes to offset that center block.
* Sew these strips randomly onto one side of the center.
* Continue to sew each strip to the next side. Keep adding strips to all sides until the block is over 8 inches square.
* Trim each block to 8 inches X 8 inches. You can turn the ruler if you would like and make them a little crooked. Push the ruler to one side so the other is just a skinny thing. Just make sure that the center block is Not in the center. You want these cranky, not perfectly placed.
* Sew each block to one another. Making one row of the quilt.

Showers Everywhere

This week has been full of babies and baby showers!

Just showing a bit of the presents off. they are so cute and tiny. i can't believe it.

This little 'two peas in a pod' is for a set of twins. one boy and one girl. The pods are lower than what i really should have put them. if they wear pants they will get covered. oh, well. sew and then learn.

I will be putting in a smappy baby with her little smap and sling of course and for the boy- a tweedly bear.

This little set is for a boy- He gets his own fleece blanket with construction mice on the other side, a truck onesie and a tweedly bear that matches. hee hee

One of these goes to a neighbor gal who is having a girl and the other is for a friend who is having a girl. Both of these will be accompanied by smappy baby girls with little smaps too.

Pattern Critique

The girls have grown out of their dresses. I call this second winter. First winter is when everything fits---second winter is when they have grown and they need new stuff. There is also a second summer.

So there being a sale at Joann's and I being one who needs new fabric, i went. Got this pattern.

And then I thought I would share my opinion.

It's a great one!!

It was really quite quick, easy, and basic enough for anyone to use. There is a zipper in the back which actually takes longer to do than cut and contruction of the whole rest....I need more practice I think. I did the square neck, but they do have a V-neck in the pattern as well. No buttons or ties either.

I used a light corderoy that i got for 2 bucks a yard. great. So each dress was $4 + my time. not too shabby.

I used the size 6 for my big age 5 Eliza. It is spot on. Just right around the arms and chest area. Just enough room to sneak a cute shirt underneath. It doesn't make the sleeves pucker and lays beautifully at the waist. The puckers are just right and a ton easier than doing a gather skirt. yay!

Dress #1

I lengthened this dress another 3 inches or so. I like this length better too. Kids never really seem to get 'fat' around the chest only taller...at least my kids. so this will make it last longer.

I have one more for her to make that is black corderoy with cute small pink flowers.

Their sale is still on today and the older one- Jerika saw the white one and really liked the fabric and the dress pattern. So i might be picking up a bit more to do one for her in her size.

This is definitly Easter Dress practice.
