Embroidery Pig

I hit an estate sale on Saturday-----whooaaa nelli. It was like walking into an embroidery zone. They had it all laid out pretty like on a table in one room......i just snatched it ALL!! what an embroidery pig, huh? I didn't share with anyone. I even went into the basement and found another pile in a box they hadn't laid out and snatched all of those too. oink.

This was all of their moms stuff and she even said - i bet there is some grandma items in there too. So take a little 'walk' with me through all of these embroidered goodies by Nellie (that isn't her name...but you'll think it fits). I will narrate. If you want to ask a question or have a comment---wait to the end. no need to raise your hand, just post it in the comment section. ;)

4 table cloths
question-the one on the right. there are 2. are these baby burpies? cute duck and lamb and sort of a long and skinny shape with the blue cotton trim on bottom.
table runners w/crochet edging
matching set of 3 placemats and center piece
matching set- 2 placemats, long table runner, one small table runner
small table cloths
small table cloths. check out the diagonal corner?
sugar sacks. see the deer on the left? white fawn milling company. cute
2 towels and 1 waltzing matilda story panel. hmmmmm
3 bird appliqued towels. These things are HUGE!! you could wrap a dripping baby in these if you wanted to.
these are my favorites:
toaster cover. not stitched, but still way cute.
Toaster cover backside
mixer cover. again, not stitched--but we'll forgive.
mixer cover backside

toaster cover.
Is that a hot cup of cocoa? jam? what is is supposed to be?
It has been patched a few times, but still cute stuff.
What do you think of Nellies embroidery? she had a good eye and some pretty good talent too.
I have decided that i have plenty of embroidered goodies in my stash, and so after i sift through these and then my mom wants second dibs....i will have some in the store so you too can be an embroidered pig. No one will say anything about it...because they are just jealous.
oink.oink.

My Highnie grew--- i just know it

I think that my highnie (i have no idea how to spell that one) has grown a good inch or so. i have sat on it alllllll dayyyyy. And in the car no less.

Do you have a day where you just spend the whole thing in the car? Only to get out when you have to go to the bathroom, pick up a kid, drop something off, or eat? Today----that was it.
This morning i spent with the family (honey and kids) at my grandma's home. She moved into a retirement place and is going to list her home--with me! yay...so we chatted, gabbed, and signed things. Then we headed on over to her empty home and searched. See, everything left there is for the taking. So we took! Of course the kids ended up with ...who knows what! it is sooo interesting to see what they just l-o-v-e. Ohhhhh, they were in heaven though...free garage sale! What more could you ask for?

So now we have some extra stuff hanging around here. I cannot complain though because of my own giddieness as i searched through the sewing area. Check out my findings: sorry some of these pics didn't get turned.

1 shoe box full of felt leftovers. And to think that i was needing to go to the store and stock up again. yay for me!

A small stash of hankies, pillowcases, and sheets. My grandma's favorite color- purple. purple bedding, purple shirts, purple curtains, and the favorite---purple hankie.

A crocheted little hot pad. A flower pot one. It hangs with a few crocheted dresses hot pads that i have. I am pretty sure that she made this one. I think i'll ask though, because it might be my great grandma price who did??? hmmm..

A box of thread. I know that some of this stuff is pretty old and maybe not the greatest condition, but they might work for some small projects that won't get a lot of washing. Still, thread, big box, every color imaniable, and color coded---wow.

Not sewing item but fun still the same. A tea set. this is from portugal. We used to live in Spain when i was growing up and here we have some memouires. I of course was at the age that i didn't collect these things. Lucky for me i can collect others collections!

A pair of salt and pepper Hen and Rooster shakers. Aren't they just lovely? they will of course be residing in the transom window with my other little collections.
ok so we got home. Then we went to lunch (at 3 pm i think we called it dinner) then back home to drop off 2 kids. Then i drove back to ogden to drop off the quilts that were overloading my suburban. Then came back, picked up some milk, picked up jerika for soccer practice. Waited for her to be done (did some stitching too) and then back home. So now, i have to figure out where to put all the new stuff. I seriously have to organize my sewing area. It is a BIG mess and yikes...when i try to find anything.
Well, so maybe tomarow will be a sitting day ---again...but on the highnie to organize something.
We'll see how that goes.
Until then, I will be looking over my goodies.....thanks grandma

Scrappy Enough??

I need some help/opinion with something.
I had signed up for a scrappy little quilt swap (see side panel)..... i went digging through my drawer with extra/leftover blocks, ect..... and found these 4 blocks.

I sashed them and then thought they were too plain, so i added the ric-rac vine + some leaves and a flower. then thinking everything was a little to bright and stark: see it? too bright huh?! that's what i thought...

I decided to give it a bath in some Tan Rit Dye.
Here it is now:
Much better don't you think?! I do...... But here is what i am having issues with. Is it Scrappy enough? I am getting rid of some blocks and you know whatever.....but it is a scrappy exchange. What do you gals think?! Any opinions?
I will show it off after i get the quilting done on it. Right now it is around 18" square.
So whatcha think?
On a different note. Spent a morning hour ith Grandma. Doing the basics, making boxes, moving others around, labeling like 2 and taking what i would like. :)
So this is what i got:
2 cute sheets, a "lovely" briefcase (she thought i needed that one)---check out the interior of this baby. W-O-W!!
Then i took her jewelry she wasn't taking with her. She is a clip-on earing gal. There are many a sparkly things.....this is great for dress up or playing with.
I also took a stained glass of wheat that she made. I would like to hang it in my window in the kitchen, but it keeps falling off. Need to work on that.
I am currenly working on a sewing kit for a trade too. It is turning out sooooo cute. I will post it when i have finished with everything. I used the pink/yellow flower pattern sheet from grandmas + some vintage buttons. So far i have a pin-cushion, little bag, needle case... i am going to put a few kits to make together....maybe a stuffed animal, x-stitch something with her name... any other suggestions?
Back to the opinion.
Yes?
No?
Maybe So?
Let me Know!
